Foot & Ankle

Achilles rupture

Complete tear of the Achilles tendon at the back of the ankle.

Achilles tendinopathy

Painful degeneration of the Achilles tendon.

Ankle fracture

Break of one or more of the bones that form the ankle joint.

Ankle osteoarthritis

Wear-and-tear loss of cartilage in the ankle.

Calcaneus fracture

Break of the heel bone, usually from a fall from height.

Chronic ankle instability

Repeated ankle sprains and a feeling that the ankle gives way.

Fifth metatarsal (Jones) fracture

Break at the base of the small-toe-side foot bone.

Big toe arthritis (hallux rigidus)

Wear of the joint at the base of the big toe.

Bunion (hallux valgus)

A bony bump where the big toe angles toward the other toes.

Hammer toe & claw toe

Toes that bend abnormally at the middle or end joints.

High (syndesmotic) ankle sprain

Sprain of the ligaments just above the ankle joint.

Lateral ankle sprain

The most common ankle sprain, on the outside of the ankle.

Lisfranc injury

Sprain or fracture-dislocation of the midfoot.

Metatarsal stress fracture

A hairline break of a long bone in the forefoot from overuse.

Metatarsalgia

Pain under the ball of the foot.

Morton's neuroma

Irritation of a small nerve between the toes.

Navicular stress fracture

A hairline break of a midfoot bone from overuse.

Peroneal tendon tear

Tear of a tendon along the outside of the ankle.

Pilon fracture

A high-energy break of the lower shinbone into the ankle joint.

Plantar fasciitis

Painful irritation of the tissue on the bottom of the foot.

Plantar plate tear

Tear of the ligament plate beneath a toe joint.

Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction

Wear or tear of the tendon that supports the arch of the foot.

Sever's disease

Growth-plate heel pain in active children.

Talus fracture

Break of a key bone inside the ankle joint.

Tarsal tunnel syndrome

Compression of a nerve on the inside of the ankle.

Trauma

Most fractures and trauma reach OSI through the emergency room. Our surgeons take overnight call at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital and Resolute Health Hospital in New Braunfels, and Dr. Twitero covers Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin. Fracture management and recovery continue with our team after you leave the hospital.
